OUR STORY

Since 2006, our family has organized the David L. Gale Memorial Golf Tournament in memory of our father, David L. Gale, who lost a battle with colon and liver cancer in 2000.  Since its inception, the tournament has expanded to over 36 teams each year.  Through the generous support of our family, friends, and community, we have donated over $130,000 to help fund colon cancer charities and research in our area.

Once again, we are working with the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital to raise funds for the David L. Gale Endowed Fund, created as a permanent source of support for Dr. Nicholas Davidson’s research on familial, hereditary cancer.  This Fund, along with money contributed to the Gale Family Fund for Familial and Hereditary Colorectal Cancer of the last two years, contributes more broadly to the understanding of the genetic causes of this cancer by support a registry of patients with familial or hereditary forms of colorectal cancer.  This registry started in the 1970’s and is maintained by Washington University and the Siteman Cancer Center.

These funds also support efforts that provide resources and information for affected patients and families, such as genetic counseling, support groups, and lectures.  Our goals are to promote early detection and curative therapies for these diseases.  Our family has been dramatically impacted by this disease, and we hope that our contributions through the Gale Family Fund and the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital will be beneficial in the search for a cure.
